Dear Parent, Guardians and Teachers,
On behalf of the PTO, we would like to extend a warm welcome to our new and returning families. We are very excited to lead the PTO for the upcoming school year, and appreciate the opportunity to serve this wonderful community.
For those of you who are unfamiliar, we are a volunteer organization made up of parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff who are all dedicated to the successful education of our children. All parents and guardians of children attending Discovery are automatically members of the PTO and are encouraged to join and take part in our meetings, events, and activities.
What does the PTO do?
The main purpose of the PTO is to support our community by providing classroom and campus enrichments as well as events that foster and grow community. We host several events throughout the year including the Welcome Back to School Social, Field Day and Maker Faire. All our events dates are posted on the school calendar.
Our PTO provides additional support to our new families through the Ambassador Program. Parent Ambassadors are a group of dedicated parents who help new families feel welcomed and informed as they transition into our school. They work with new and existing families to ensure a continued strong connection to the Discovery community. New families should be receiving a welcome call from their Parent Ambassador this summer.
How can you help?
We are aware that many of our parents and guardians work long hours and have demanding roles in our greater community that may make it difficult to volunteer. Volunteering, however, does not have to mean a huge time commitment. Any assistance you can provide is valuable, and active participation by all is essential to the success of our programs. Discovery’s PTO is a wonderful way to become involved in your child’s education, to get to know the staff, and of course to meet other parents. Please reach out to us and we will be sure to find an area that you can help that will meet your availability. We need you!
All PTO dues are collected with your tuition, but please consider supporting our organization further by selecting Discovery as your benefiting organization on iGive.com, Amazonsmile, and Target’s Take Charge of Education. Signing up only takes a few moments and provides a significant benefit to our school.
We welcome you to join our meetings and to contribute your ideas on ways we can improve our school and the activities of the PTO. All meeting dates are posted on the school calendar, communicated through the school’s “Discovery Update,” and on our private Facebook Group, Discovery Community. We meet four times throughout the school year. Our first meeting is September 6th at 6 pm. Childcare will be provided.
We look forward to meeting our new families and welcoming back our returning families at Orientation on August 18th. We would also like to invite you to our Back to School Social on August 19th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club playground. More details to follow.
We look forward to another wonderful year at The Discovery School!
and Kathy Bull
