After School Adventures

 
Discovery's After School Adventures Program provides our students with a variety of enrichment opportunities for grade levels. You may sign up for these programs by logging into the Parent Portal on our website. Questions? Contact us at sschmalfeld@thediscoveryschool.org.
 
Discovery reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment, at which time refunds will be given. No refunds or adjustments will be made after classes begin. There are no adjustments, refunds or discounts for absences. 
 
PROGRAMS for 2016-2017:
 
Discovery Athletic Games - Students will boost their confidence and self-esteem through fun, active, and challenging games with a focus on fair play, team building, leadership collaboration, agility, strength, stamina, and fitness.
For students K - 6th Grade
16 students maximum
Session 2: November 28 - February 27 (12 weeks)
Mondays 3:10 p.m. to 4:10 p.m.
 
Discovery Basketball - Students will focus on basic and complex skills including dribbling, passing, free throws, and shooting.  All children will learn how to collaborate as part of a team and learn the importance of being vocal on the court, in addition to proper positioning.  Conditioning will be a vital aspect of their weekly training.  There will be a 1:1 ratio in terms of child to basketball.
For students K - 6th Grade
16 students maximum
Session 2: November 28 - February 27 (12 weeks) 
Tuesdays 3:10 p.m. to 4:10 p.m.
 
Discovery Athletic Conditioning - Students will focus on running, agility, and strength training to enhance each child’s fitness level and overall well-being. Fair play, resiliency, and leadership are developed throughout this practice.
For students K - 6th Grade
16 students maximum
Session 2: November 28 - February 27 (12 weeks)
Thursdays 3:10 p.m. to 4:10 p.m.
 
Discovery Art - Students will explore a variety of media and techniques, develop skills in drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture, with an effort to include natural and found materials and to promote recycling or repurposing of materials. Students will develop personal expression and creativity, individual interpretation, choice and flexibility within the structured format for a project or theme, and will practice problem-solving, cooperation, and persistence.
For students 1st Grade - 6th Grade
Session 2: February 7 - April 18
Tuesdays 3:15 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.
 
Discovery F.A.C.E. - Developed by Mr. Kirk Farber, 7th degree Black Belt and Seminar Speaker, this program combines his 25+ years training of Martial Arts, jumping rope, and juggling to guarantee results in agility, coordination, focus, and timing for today’s youth. Students will build self-esteem and character through public speaking on character traits during every class session.
For students K - 6th grade
Session 2: January 11 - May 3
Wednesdays 3:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.
 
Tennis - Students will utilize the Quickstart method of learning with modified nets/courts, compression balls, and appropriately sized racquets. This method of development has proven be be successful and allows kids to have earlier success and more fun!
For students K - 3rd grade
Session 2: March 3 - May 12
Fridays 3:10 p.m. - 4:10 p.m.
 
Discovery STEaM - Students will experience STEaM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) through fun and challenging hands-on projects that encourage creativity, innovation collaboration, problem-solving, decision making, and curiosity-driven learning.
For students 1st Grade - 6th Grade
Session 1, Stamps & Soap: September 1 - 30
Session 2, PVC & Potatoes: October 1 - 31
Session 3, Beginner's Woodworking: November 1 - 30
No Session for December 2016
Session 4, Kindergarten STEaM: January 1 - 31 (Kindergarten students only)
Session 5, It's All About You: February 1 - 28
Session 6, Take Apart: March 1 - 31
Session 7, The Space is Yours: April 1 - 30
Wednesdays 3:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.
 
Discovery Dance/Musical Theater - Have fun & learn Ballet, Jazz, and Musical Theater techniques with First Coast Center for the Arts!
For Primary class students aged 3-6 years
Session 2: February 9 - April 20
Thursdays 3:10 p.m. - 4:10 p.m.

Soccer Shots - Students will be introduced to the beautiful game of soccer in a creative, age appropriate, non-competitive setting. Program is conducted by Soccer Shots and registration must be completed through Soccer Shots.
For students 2 - 4 years of age
Session I - Sept 12th - May 14th
Mondays 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
 
First Lego League - Students will build with the latest Lego Mindstorms EV3 Robotics and compete in a First LEGO League competition in addition to developing skills such as teamwork, problem solving, and public speaking to complete all FLL challenges. Program is conducted by Bricks4Kids and registration must be completed through Bricks4Kidz.
For students 4th Grade - 6th Grade
Session I - Sept 12th - Feb 6th
Mondays 3:15 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
